New York, Jun 17 (V7N) – A clash broke out between supporters of Argentina and Algeria ahead of their FIFA World Cup Group J match, with tensions spilling over into a physical confrontation in New York’s Times Square.

Videos circulating widely on social media show fans wearing Argentina’s iconic blue-and-white jerseys and Algerian supporters engaging in a scuffle that quickly escalated into a fight. The footage was first shared by an Instagram account known as "Brute Official" before spreading across multiple online platforms.

According to a report by TyC Sports, Argentina supporters had organized a flag march in Times Square before their team’s opening World Cup fixture. During the gathering, a heated exchange reportedly erupted between the two groups of fans, eventually leading to the clash.

Despite the disturbance, no casualties have been reported. Authorities have also not released any official statement regarding possible arrests or further action related to the incident.

The altercation comes just hours before the highly anticipated Group J encounter between reigning world champions Argentina and Algeria. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 a.m. Bangladesh time on Wednesday.

Argentina, led by hopes of defending its World Cup crown, will begin its title-retention campaign with the fixture. Meanwhile, Algeria will be looking to make a strong statement and pull off an early upset against one of the tournament favorites.

For now, attention has shifted from the confrontation in Times Square to the battle that awaits on the field.
