Pabna, Aug 12 (V7N) — A fire broke out at a market in Atgharia upazila of Pabna district on Tuesday evening, destroying a mini fuel station and three nearby shops and causing an estimated Tk 31 lakh in losses, according to the affected business owners.

The fire broke out at around 7:30pm at Kumargari Bazar in Machpara union.

According to local residents and the Fire Service, fuel was being unloaded from a tanker at a mini fuel station owned by Torab Ali Bhuiyan, proprietor of Torab Store, when a spark reportedly occurred while connecting a pipe, triggering the fire.

The flames quickly spread to nearby shops.

Nurul Islam Babu, sub-officer at the Atgharia Fire Service Station, said four Fire Service units responded to the incident and brought the blaze under control after nearly two hours of efforts.

The mini fuel station and three adjacent shops were completely destroyed, while several other shops suffered partial damage.

The affected business owners estimated their combined losses at around Tk 31 lakh. No casualties were reported.

Torab Ali Bhuiyan said the fire had caused him losses of at least Tk 15 lakh.

“How did the fire start while the fuel was being unloaded? The damage to my business is enormous,” he said.
