Tehran, May 12 (V7N) – Iran has warned that it could increase uranium enrichment up to 90 percent, a level widely considered sufficient for nuclear weapons, if it comes under further attack, according to a statement from a senior Iranian lawmaker.
Iranian Parliament spokesperson Ebrahim Rezaei made the remarks in a post on social media platform X on Tuesday (May 12), Reuters reported.
In his post, Rezaei said that one of Iran’s possible responses to renewed military aggression could be raising uranium enrichment to 90 percent, adding that the issue would be reviewed in parliament.
The warning comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States following recent military exchanges and fragile ceasefire efforts. US President Donald Trump on Monday (May 11) described the current ceasefire situation as “on life support” after rejecting an Iranian proposal, raising concerns over the stability of ongoing diplomatic negotiations.
Earlier statements from the US side claimed that Iranian nuclear facilities were significantly damaged during a 12-day conflict involving US and Israeli strikes, reducing Iran’s enrichment capability. However, Tehran has not confirmed the extent of such damage.
The nuclear issue remains a central point of dispute in stalled US-Iran talks. While Iran insists on maintaining its right to domestic uranium enrichment, Washington continues to demand a halt to high-level enrichment activities, deepening the diplomatic deadlock.
