Madhabpur, July 26 (V7N) — Habiganj-4 constituency lawmaker Syed Md. Faisal has said that the government is working to improve the living standards of tea workers and ethnic minority communities by focusing on education, healthcare, housing, and socio-economic development.
He made the remarks on Saturday morning while addressing a programme held at the Chunarughat Upazila Parishad Hallroom under a development initiative for tea garden communities organised by the Prime Minister’s Office.
During the event, scholarships and bicycles were distributed among students from ethnic minority communities. Various government assistance packages were also handed over to poor, vulnerable, widowed, abandoned, orphaned, and homeless families.
MP Faisal said thousands of tea workers living in 23 tea gardens across Madhabpur and Chunarughat upazilas continue to face socio-economic challenges. He said the government has been implementing various plans to improve their access to education, healthcare, housing, communication facilities, and employment opportunities.
He added that the challenges faced by tea garden communities and the concerns of workers have been presented to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He said initiatives are being taken to improve the lives of tea workers and ethnic minority communities through expanded education facilities, healthcare services, infrastructure development, housing support, and job creation.
“No community can be left behind in the country’s development process,” Faisal said, adding that the government is giving special attention to increasing educational opportunities for children in tea garden areas, empowering women, developing skills, and expanding social safety programmes.
He said these initiatives aim to integrate tea workers and ethnic minority families into the mainstream development process.
The programme was chaired by Chunarughat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Galib Chowdhury. Among others who spoke at the event were Chunarughat Upazila BNP General Secretary Advocate Mir Siraj, former General Secretary Mozammel Haque Talukder, former chairman Abu Saleh Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman, Pourashava BNP President Principal Fazlul Haque Talukder Abid, former Upazila BNP Organising Secretary Shamsul Haque Talukder, and Acting General Secretary of Laskarpur Valley Workers’ Union Nripen Pal.
Local elected representatives, government officials, political leaders, tea worker representatives, ethnic minority members, and beneficiaries attended the programme.
