Gulf of Oman, May 06 (V7N) — A French container ship operated by CMA CGM has reportedly come under attack while passing through the Strait of Hormuz, leaving several crew members injured and the vessel damaged, according to company officials.
The company said the incident occurred on Tuesday (May 5) when its ship San Antonio was navigating the strategic waterway between the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf. The attack reportedly caused injuries among sailors, all of whom have since been evacuated and are receiving medical treatment.
The Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route, has been under heightened tension amid regional instability involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
CMA CGM also noted that several of its vessels had previously been affected by disruptions in the region. At the start of the ongoing conflict, around 14 of its container ships were stranded in the Gulf area. Earlier in April, another company vessel reportedly came under warning fire while transiting the same strait, though no injuries were reported at that time.
Authorities have not yet independently confirmed the latest attack.
