Sudan May 05 (V7N) - Sudan has recalled its ambassador to Ethiopia, accusing the country of involvement in a drone strike that targeted Khartoum International Airport, state news agency SUNA reported Tuesday.

A military source told AFP that Sudanese air defenses intercepted drones aimed at the airport on Monday, while witnesses confirmed hearing explosions and seeing smoke nearby.

Drone attacks have intensified in recent months as Sudan’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continue their war, which began in April 2023. In March, the Sudanese military publicly accused the RSF of launching drone strikes from inside Ethiopian territory — the first such allegation of Ethiopian involvement.

Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem announced the ambassador’s recall “for consultations regarding the UAE-Ethiopia drone attack on Khartoum International Airport.” He stated that evidence showed the attack originated from Ethiopia, which he described as “a sister nation.”

The UAE has been widely accused of arming the RSF, though it has repeatedly denied the claims.

The incident underscores the growing regional dimension of Sudan’s conflict, raising concerns about cross-border involvement and escalating instability.
