Washington, Apr 28 (V7N) — US President Donald Trump has held a meeting with his top national security advisers to review Iran’s latest peace proposal, according to reports citing The Wall Street Journal.
The discussions reportedly focused on the ongoing conflict situation, rising tensions in the region, and concerns over disruptions to oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier, on Monday (April 27), Iranian sources said Tehran’s proposal includes suspending negotiations on its nuclear program until the war situation stabilizes, while also addressing disputes related to the Strait of Hormuz. However, analysts suggest Washington is unlikely to accept the terms, as the US has consistently prioritized resolving the nuclear issue as a core condition in talks.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated in an interview with Fox News that Iran may be attempting to prolong the ceasefire process. “We cannot let them do this,” he said, adding that any agreement must strictly prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
He further described Iranian negotiators as “skilled and experienced,” emphasizing the need for strong safeguards in any potential deal.
Meanwhile, diplomatic mediation efforts continue through Pakistan, despite earlier reports that President Trump had cancelled planned visits by special envoy Steve Witkoff and senior adviser Jared Kushner.
On the Iranian side, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian visited Russia after a trip to Oman, where he met President Vladimir Putin and reportedly received assurances of continued support from Moscow.
The developments highlight ongoing diplomatic maneuvering involving multiple global powers as efforts continue to manage tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and regional stability.
