West Palm Beach, Apr 26 (V7N) – Donald Trump said Iran sent a new and improved proposal within minutes of his decision to cancel a planned visit by US representatives to Pakistan, signaling a possible shift in Tehran’s negotiating stance.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday before boarding Air Force One in West Palm Beach, Trump said the earlier proposal from Iran was “not satisfactory at all.” However, he noted that shortly after announcing the cancellation, a revised offer was delivered. “They sent us something that could have been better. Interestingly, within about 10 minutes of canceling the trip, we received a new proposal that was much improved,” he said.
Trump added that while Iran has shown greater willingness to make concessions, the latest proposal still falls short of Washington’s expectations. When asked by Kit Maher of CNN about the specifics, Trump responded briefly, saying, “They offered a lot, but it’s not enough.”
Earlier, Trump announced on his social media platform Truth Social that he had canceled the planned Islamabad visit of special envoy Steve Witkoff and advisor Jared Kushner. He described the trip as a “waste of time,” saying an 18-hour flight to Pakistan for unproductive discussions was not worthwhile.
Trump also claimed that Iran’s leadership is currently facing internal disarray and divisions, suggesting uncertainty over who holds final decision-making authority in Tehran.
Although there is no formal agreement between the United States and Iran at present, a ceasefire remains in effect. Meanwhile, the Trump administration continues to enforce strict economic and port-related restrictions on Iran.
His latest remarks indicate that Washington intends to maintain maximum economic and diplomatic pressure in an effort to secure broader concessions from Tehran, even as direct, in-person talks appear to be on hold for now.
