Tehran, Apr 14 (V7N) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation with his Omani counterpart as diplomatic efforts continue amid the ongoing ceasefire between Iran and the United States, according to Al Jazeera.
Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi expressed hope that both sides could reach an agreement soon to ensure peace and stability in the region.
Araghchi reiterated Iran’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East but emphasized that this must take place without US interference.
Despite increased diplomatic engagement and mediation efforts involving countries such as Oman and the United Arab Emirates, key disagreements between Tehran and Washington remain unresolved. Officials say communication between the two sides has continued even during periods of heightened tension and conflict.
Iran has reportedly proposed a five-year suspension of its nuclear activities, but the United States has rejected the proposal. According to reports, the US has instead demanded a longer suspension period of around 20 years, deepening disagreements over Iran’s nuclear program.
The central issues blocking progress remain mutual distrust and conflicting demands. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has stated that Iran cannot trust the United States, accusing Washington of making excessive demands during negotiations.
Earlier discussions held in Islamabad involved an Iranian delegation led by Ghalibaf and a US delegation reportedly led by US Vice President JD Vance, with mediation efforts continuing through regional partners.
Although no official breakthrough has been announced, diplomatic contacts are ongoing, leaving open the possibility of future rounds of negotiations.
