LONDON, March 2, (V7N) – British forces are responding to a suspected drone strike at their military base in Cyprus, the defence ministry said Monday, with nocasualties reported.

The strike hit RAF Akrotiri at midnight, the ministry confirmed, adding that forces were handling a “live situation.” “Our force protection in the region is at the highest level and the base has responded to defend our people,” a spokesperson said.

The incident came a day after Britain agreed to allow the United States to use its bases for “defensive” strikes against Iranian missiles and launchers. RAF Akrotiri, near Limassol, recently received additional assets including air and drone defence systems, radars, and F-35 aircraft.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer stressed Britain was “not involved in the initial strikes on Iran and we will not join offensive action now,” but said Iran’s “scorched-earth strategy” required collective self-defence measures.
