Dhaka, Dec 02 (V7N) — Severe floods and landslides across South and Southeast Asia have claimed more than 1,300 lives, with over a thousand people still missing in three countries, according to international media reports on Tuesday.
Indonesia has been hit hardest, recording at least 750 deaths, mostly on the disaster-stricken island of Sumatra. Rescue operations there remain limited due to difficult conditions, and officials fear the death toll could rise further. This is Indonesia’s worst natural disaster since 2018.
In Sri Lanka, the number of deaths has climbed to 410, while around 350 people remain missing. Several major cities are facing acute drinking water shortages, and many areas are still without electricity.
Meanwhile, Thailand has reported 181 deaths, with catastrophic flooding affecting nearly 4 million people across the country.
Authorities across the region are continuing emergency efforts as heavy rainfall persists, raising concerns of further casualties.
