Washington, Aug. 2 (V7N) – U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he has called off a planned military strike against Iran, saying the decision was made on the condition that a "quick" agreement is reached.
Trump made the announcement in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Sunday (Aug. 2).
In the post, the U.S. president claimed that Washington had been prepared to launch military action against Iran on a scale "not seen since World War II."
According to Trump, Iran and several Middle Eastern countries requested that the United States refrain from carrying out the attack after the basic framework of a possible agreement had been reached.
He claimed the proposed deal would ensure that the Strait of Hormuz remains fully open to international shipping and would eliminate what he described as Iran's nuclear threat.
"For the good of the world and for a successful and prosperous Iran, I have agreed to call off the attack, but on the condition that a deal be made quickly," Trump wrote.
The U.S. president also claimed that Israel had agreed with his decision, concluding his post by urging all parties to finalize the agreement as soon as possible.
There was no immediate official response from either Iran or Israel regarding Trump's remarks.
Earlier, several U.S. media outlets reported that the Trump administration was considering launching a new round of large-scale military strikes against Iran.
Last Friday, during a cabinet meeting, Trump warned of a possible massive military operation against Iran, saying the United States was prepared to intensify its campaign if necessary.
