New Delhi, Nov 19 (V7N) — Iran has suspended visa-free entry for ordinary Indian passport holders following reports that Indians were being lured to the country under false promises of jobs or travel to other countries.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs announced on Monday (November 17) that the new rule will take effect from November 22, 2025. As a result, Indian citizens will now require advance visas for both entry and transit in Iran.
The ministry said that many Indians had been sent to Iran with promises of high-paying jobs, easy access to Gulf countries or Europe, and visa-free employment. However, upon arrival, numerous individuals were reportedly kidnapped and held for ransom by human trafficking gangs.
Since February of last year, Iran had allowed limited visa-free entry for citizens of several countries, including India, as part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations. The recent suspension reflects Iran’s response to growing concerns over the safety of Indian travelers.
