Khartoum, Nov 01 (V7N)- The Sudanese city of Al-Fashir in the Darfur region has descended into chaos and horror as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continue their wave of violence marked by murder, rape, and looting. The paramilitary group has reportedly sealed off all humanitarian aid routes to the city, leaving thousands of civilians trapped amid the devastation.
According to UN and local sources, at least 62,000 residents have fled Al-Fashir and surrounding areas since the RSF took control. Streets are littered with bodies, and widespread atrocities have been reported, drawing condemnation from international human rights organizations.
“Attacks on civilians are ongoing, and the situation in North Darfur remains catastrophic,” said UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric. “Humanitarian assistance has been blocked from reaching Al-Fashir, forcing thousands to flee to nearby towns such as Tawila in search of safety.”
The violence extends beyond Darfur, with reports of severe humanitarian crises in North Kordofan, north of the capital Al-Obeid. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) confirmed that around 36,000 people were displaced from Bara town this week alone. Disturbingly, five Sudanese Red Crescent volunteers were executed by RSF members, according to local sources.
Human rights groups have described the ongoing violence as genocidal in nature. They have demanded immediate international intervention to protect civilians and ensure the safe delivery of humanitarian aid to the affected regions. Calls have also intensified for a war crimes investigation and the prosecution of those responsible for the atrocities.
As the conflict deepens, Sudan stands on the brink of one of the worst humanitarian disasters in recent history, with millions displaced and vital infrastructure destroyed.
