Geneva, June 5 (V7N) – Mirjana Spoljaric, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as "worse than hell," urging the international community to act swiftly to stop the suffering.

In a powerful interview with the BBC from the ICRC headquarters in Geneva, Spoljaric said, "Humanity is failing." She emphasized that world governments are not doing enough to end the war, alleviate Palestinian suffering, or secure the release of Israeli hostages still held in Gaza.

Spoljaric strongly criticized ongoing violations of international humanitarian law, saying, "The human dignity of the Gazan people is being severely violated." She specifically pointed to the actions of Israeli forces, accusing them of breaching international legal standards.

The ICRC currently has 130 staff members working inside Gaza, the majority of whom are Palestinians. The organization operates a surgical hospital in Rafah, southern Gaza, one of the few remaining health facilities still functioning in the war-torn territory.

Recently, casualties were reported near an aid distribution center close to this hospital, further highlighting the risks faced by both civilians and humanitarian workers.

As the war continues, Spoljaric reiterated the ICRC’s neutral stance but called for urgent, coordinated efforts to restore humanitarian access and protect civilians. "The international community cannot remain indifferent to this level of suffering," she said.
