Islamabad, May 18 (V7N) – In the wake of the most severe military confrontation between India and Pakistan in decades, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy met with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad, signaling renewed diplomatic engagement amid regional tension.
The meeting comes just a week after hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbors brought South Asia to the brink of war. A ceasefire, reportedly brokered by US President Donald Trump, has since taken effect, easing immediate fears of further escalation.
Footage of the diplomatic meeting was broadcast live on state television, showing Dar welcoming Lammy to the Pakistani Foreign Office. While the details of the discussions have not been publicly disclosed, officials described the meeting as focused on regional peace, stability, and the importance of dialogue.
During last week's clashes, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer had expressed concern, stating that Britain was in "urgent contact" with both India and Pakistan to support de-escalation efforts.
In parallel diplomatic efforts, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir also paid separate visits to New Delhi and Islamabad. Both nations reportedly offered to mediate to reduce tensions and avoid further military engagement.
The international community continues to urge restraint, dialogue, and a peaceful resolution to disputes between the two South Asian rivals, amid growing concerns over regional and global security implications.
