Washington, May 7 (V7N) — U.S. President Donald Trump has announced an end to American bombing operations in Yemen, citing a commitment from the Houthi rebels to halt hostilities. Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump stated that the Houthis have signaled their willingness to stop fighting, and in response, the United States will suspend its airstrikes.
“The Houthis have said they no longer want to fight. We respect that commitment and will stop the bombing,” Trump said. “They have surrendered.”
He further added, “We will take their pledge seriously. The Houthis have said they will no longer destroy ships, and that was the main reason we were bombing them. I think it’s a positive development.”
Trump emphasized that Houthi forces had previously been targeting commercial vessels at sea, prompting the U.S. military response. Following their stated change in posture, the president confirmed that American strikes on Houthi positions would cease immediately.
This announcement marks a significant shift in U.S. involvement in the Yemen conflict, where Washington has been targeting Houthi military infrastructure amid increasing regional tensions.
