Islamabad, May 06 (V7N) – Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad on a day-long official visit on Monday to discuss bilateral and regional developments, including the ongoing crisis in South Asia.
Upon arrival at Islamabad International Airport, Araghchi was received by Pakistan’s Additional Secretary for West Asian Affairs Syed Asad Gilani, the Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghaddam, and other senior officials.
In a statement, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry confirmed that the visit would focus on bilateral, regional, and global issues, with the current geopolitical tension between India and Pakistan high on the agenda. Iranian officials also emphasized that de-escalating tensions in the subcontinent would be a central topic of discussion, given Iran’s longstanding relationships with both nations.
“Iran enjoys close ties with both India and Pakistan,” said Ambassador Moghaddam. “This visit is part of Tehran’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.”
While Araghchi is scheduled to travel to Delhi later this week, it remains unclear whether this tour was pre-planned or prompted by the recent escalation following the Pahalgam attack and subsequent military movements along the India-Pakistan border.
Iran’s diplomatic engagement comes as both India and Pakistan continue to exchange strong rhetoric and military posturing, prompting concerns of a wider regional crisis.
