Dec 11, (V7N) - Deobra Redden, 31, was sentenced to 26 to 65 years in prison for a violent courtroom attack on Judge Mary Kay Holthus earlier this year. The assault, captured on video, showed Redden leaping over the bench and launching a flurry of punches, causing injuries to a court marshal and leaving the judge visibly shaken.

The attack occurred in January as Holthus prepared to sentence Redden for a prior crime. At his sentencing in Las Vegas, Redden expressed remorse, claiming, "I know that I'm not a bad person." His lawyer, Carl Arnold, attributed the incident to Redden's severe mental illness, noting that he was off his medication at the time. Redden reportedly reacted with horror upon seeing the video, calling himself a "monster."

Despite acknowledging his mental health struggles, Judge Susan Johnson emphasized that Redden understood the difference between right and wrong. She described the attack as "an assault on the judiciary," underscoring its severity. Redden pleaded guilty but mentally ill to charges including attempted murder.
