New York, Jul 14 (V7N)- England head into their World Cup semi-final against Argentina with renewed confidence following a 2-1 victory over Norway in the quarter-finals. However, head coach Thomas Tuchel continues to face selection challenges due to injuries and suspension within the squad.

England will be without defender Jarell Quansah, who is serving a two-match suspension after receiving a red card against Mexico. Veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson has also been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament after suffering a broken hand.

There was positive news for the Three Lions, however, as Declan Rice, Marc Guéhi and Reece James all returned to the main squad after recovering from injuries.

Despite the setbacks, England remain optimistic about reaching the final, with captain Harry Kane in impressive form and Jude Bellingham producing a standout display by scoring twice in the quarter-final victory over Norway.

Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated semi-final, goalkeeper Jordan Pickford said England are fully prepared to face Argentina's attacking threat.

"We're not planning only for Lionel Messi," Pickford told reporters. "Argentina have one of the best attacks in world football, but we've prepared for every possible scenario, including a penalty shootout."

The England goalkeeper added that he is ready to contribute in any way necessary if the match is decided from the spot.

"In a penalty shootout, I'm prepared not only to make crucial saves but also to take a penalty myself if the team needs me," Pickford said.

The winner of the blockbuster semi-final will book a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
