Santiago, July 25 (V7N)- Cape Verdean goalkeeper Vozinha has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to join Chilean football powerhouse Colo Colo following his outstanding performances at the FIFA World Cup.

The veteran shot-stopper captured global attention after making his World Cup debut at the age of 40 and playing a key role in Cape Verde's historic run to the Round of 32 in the country's first-ever appearance at the tournament.

International media reports said the agreement with Colo Colo came shortly after the World Cup, while the Chilean club also fueled speculation by sharing a cryptic post on social media hinting at the transfer.

Vozinha made 18 saves in four World Cup matches, including 15 against finalists Spain and Argentina. His commanding performances helped Cape Verde avoid defeat in regulation time throughout the tournament.

In recognition of his displays, the experienced goalkeeper was named in the FIFA Team of the Tournament.

One of his standout performances came in a goalless draw against eventual champions Spain, where he made seven saves to become the oldest goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet on his World Cup debut.

He also impressed in Cape Verde's Round of 32 clash against Argentina, making eight saves despite his team's 3-2 extra-time defeat. His performance earned praise from several football personalities, including Lionel Messi.

Born Josímar José Évora Dias, the goalkeeper was a free agent during the World Cup after his contract with Portuguese second-tier side Chaves expired.

He adopted the nickname "Vozinha" early in his career to distinguish himself from a teammate with the same name. The nickname was given to him by his grandparents during childhood.

Following his remarkable World Cup campaign, Vozinha's popularity on social media has surged dramatically, with reports claiming his follower count has grown from around 50,000 to more than 29 million.

Media reports also suggested that Major League Soccer side Inter Miami had shown interest in signing the veteran goalkeeper before Colo Colo reached a verbal agreement with him.

If the move is finalized, Vozinha will play under Argentine coach Fernando Ortiz at Colo Colo in Santiago, with the Chilean club looking to strengthen its squad ahead of the upcoming Copa Libertadores campaign.
