Kharkiv, June 7 (V7N) — Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, has come under one of the heaviest bombardments in recent months, with relentless Russian drone, missile, and guided bomb attacks killing at least five people and injuring more than 60 others over the past two days.

According to a report by Reuters on Saturday, the onslaught began late Friday night when Russian forces launched a coordinated strike targeting a civilian industrial facility. The barrage, which included 40 drones, missiles, and guided bombs, left four civilians dead and dozens injured. Loud explosions echoed through the city throughout the night.

A separate attack took place Saturday evening in Kharkiv’s central park, killing one person and injuring another 40. Simultaneously, two civilians were reported killed in a separate Russian strike on the southern city of Kherson.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov stated that the city was hit with 48 drones, two missiles, and four glide bombs on Friday night alone. He confirmed that more glide bombs were dropped on Saturday, indicating a sustained and calculated offensive.

Russia’s Defense Ministry has claimed responsibility for the attacks, stating they were in retaliation for what it described as “terrorist attacks” by Ukraine on Russian railway infrastructure and air bases earlier in the week.

The intensifying attacks on Kharkiv signal a concerning escalation in the conflict, targeting civilian areas and critical infrastructure as Ukraine braces for further assaults amidst an already volatile warfront.
