Dhaka, Sept 26 (V7N) – A new domestic cricket structure featuring first-class, List A and T20 competitions is set to be formally launched tomorrow (Sunday), with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) holding the launching ceremony at a local hotel in the capital.
The domestic calendar will begin with the National Cricket League (NCL) four-day competition on October 3, followed by the one-day format and, finally, the T20 competition, which will be organised in a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) model.
Under the proposed structure, the three formats will be brought under a single system, while ownership rights will be handed over to corporate and financial institutions. The BCB is initially considering granting the franchises ownership rights for three years, allowing corporate entities to become directly involved in the management of domestic cricket alongside the board.
The T20 edition of the tournament is scheduled to begin in December at the Barishal Cricket Stadium.
Fortune Group, Blue Star Limited, Citizens Bank, Walton Hi-Tech Industries, ACME Laboratories and Nabil Group of Industries are among the companies expected to take part in the tournament.
Six selectors—Habibul Bashar Sumon, Hasibul Hossain Shanto, Sazzad Shipon, Nadif Chowdhury, Naim Islam and Shamsur Rahman—will also be associated with the six teams, primarily serving as team representatives.
The new structure aims to revitalise domestic cricket in Bangladesh by attracting corporate investment and improving the financial sustainability of the tournaments. The BCB has been working on reforming the domestic cricket calendar to ensure better preparation for players and more competitive matches. The involvement of corporate entities is expected to bring professionalism, better management, and increased revenue to domestic cricket. The NCL, which begins on October 3, will feature eight divisional teams, with defending champions Rangpur beginning their title defence against Dhaka at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
