Sylhet, Sept 20 (V7N) — The upcoming election of the Golapganj Press Club has generated considerable interest among local journalists, with 47 nomination papers submitted for 17 posts, marking the formal start of the election process after a gap of nearly two decades.
Nomination papers were distributed and received from 8pm to 10pm on Thursday, Sept 18, 2026, at the GB Television hall in Golapganj. Members of the election commission were present throughout the process.
Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Delwar Hossain Dilu and Election Commissioners Abdul Ahad, M. Shahidur Rahman and Abul Kalam oversaw the nomination process.
The candidates who collected nomination papers for the respective posts are:
President: Abul Kashem Ruman, Syed Jelwar Hossain Swapan, Enamul Haque Enam and Mahfuz Ahmed Chowdhury.
Senior Vice-President: Azizur Rahman Khan, Golam Dastagir Chamin, Md. Zahirul Islam and MG Mostafa.
Vice-President: Abdul Khalek and Md. Badrul Alam.
General Secretary: Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury and Imran Ahmed.
Joint General Secretary: Abdul Aziz Babor, Zahid Uddin and Sakib Al Mamun.
Treasurer: Anwar Humayun and Delwar Hossain Mahmud.
Sports Secretary: Md. Tamim Ahmed and Saju Mia.
Cultural Affairs Secretary: Fahad Hossain and Ruhul Amin.
Publicity Secretary: Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Jalal Ahmed Chowdhury and Fahim Ahmed.
Publication Secretary: Shakel Uddin and Saim Ibn Abbas.
Office Secretary: Rimon Ahmed, Oliur Rahman Tamim and Rubel Ahmed Talukder.
Information and Technology Secretary: Jaber Ahmed and Samil Hossain.
Training Secretary: Hafizul Islam Laskar, Javed Mahbub, Habibur Rahman, Farhan Islam Raju and Salman Kader Dipu.

Election Schedule
According to the election schedule, candidates may withdraw their nominations until 9pm on Sept 21. The final list of candidates will be published at 4pm on Sept 22.
Voting will take place from 11am to 1pm on Oct 3, 2026, with the election results scheduled to be announced at 3pm the same day.
The election has generated enthusiasm among journalists working in Golapganj, particularly because the press club is holding its election after a long interval. The nomination process at the GB Television hall also saw a lively atmosphere, with candidates and fellow journalists attending the event.
Candidates have already begun contacting colleagues and holding discussions ahead of the election. The new leadership of the Golapganj Press Club will be elected through voting on Oct 3.
