Narsingdi, Sept 26 (V7N) – LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan has said a vested group is spreading misinformation and misusing power by taking advantage of the freedom of Facebook and newspapers, urging everyone to remain vigilant against the spread of falsehood.
"Everyone must remain vigilant so that no one can spread falsehood by taking advantage of the freedom of the press," he said while speaking at a programme organised at Palash Upazila Parishad auditorium this afternoon to distribute cash assistance and sewing machines among distressed and underprivileged people and school bags among students of different educational institutions.
Moyeen Khan said the BNP believes in an accountable government and has come to power through a democratic process. "A handful of people will not be allowed to spread lies and deception by taking advantage of social media," he said.
The minister said BNP does not believe in the politics of revenge but in the rule of law, adding that those who misuse the law will not be spared from the hands of law.
Palash Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ishtiaq Ahmed presided over the programme, while Palash Upazila BNP President Abdus Sattar, General Secretary Saiful Haque, Palash Municipality BNP President Alam Molla, among others, were present.The minister's remarks come amid ongoing discussions about the role of social media and press freedom in Bangladesh. The government has emphasized its commitment to freedom of expression while also calling for responsibility and accountability in the dissemination of information. The distribution of cash assistance, sewing machines, and school bags is part of the government's social welfare programmes aimed at supporting underprivileged communities and promoting self-reliance among the poor.
