Poba, Oct 01 (V7N) – Poba Upazila in Rajshahi, comprising two municipalities and eight unions with a population of nearly 368,889, has witnessed notable progress in rural infrastructure development. Under government initiatives such as TR, Kabikha-Kabita, HBB, and bridge/culvert construction programs, villages across the upazila are experiencing significant improvements in connectivity and public services.

Implemented under the supervision of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer and executed by the Upazila Project Implementation Office, these initiatives have modernized rural landscapes, ensuring better roads, educational facilities, religious institutions, and community services. Villagers say the projects are not only easing travel and communication but also enhancing livelihoods by creating new opportunities in education, agriculture, and commerce.

Field visits to unions such as Darshanpara, Hujuripara, Damkura, Haripur, Horogram, Haria, Bargachi, and Parila reveal extensive road rehabilitation works. Previously muddy, rain-soaked dirt roads have been upgraded with brick chips and roller compaction, making them usable year-round. Local residents confirm that improved roads have reduced travel hardships and provided easier access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities. In addition, Union Computer Training Centers have been established to enhance skills among unemployed youth and students, equipping them for self-employment and technical education.

According to the Upazila Project Implementation Office, all planned projects for the fiscal year 2024–2025 have been completed. These include 104 Kabikha-Kabita projects worth Tk 98.21 lakh, funded by 132.1462 metric tons each of rice and wheat; 160 TR projects worth Tk 68.81 lakh; one HBB project worth Tk 80.51 lakh; and two bridge/culvert projects worth Tk 44.40 lakh.

Community members and union leaders have praised the quality and sustainability of the works. They report that roads no longer wash away during rains and educational institutions now benefit from improved infrastructure and technical resources. Teachers from several local schools noted that technical education programs have expanded due to the provision of new equipment under TR funding, significantly increasing student enrollment in vocational courses.

Union Parishad representatives emphasized that projects have enhanced not only road communication but also social and religious facilities, while ensuring accountability and transparency in implementation. Villagers expressed satisfaction that the initiatives are making rural life easier and more connected to urban opportunities.

Officials, including Upazila Project Implementation Officer Engineer Abu Bashir and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Arafat Aman Aziz, stressed that the projects were carried out with close monitoring to guarantee transparency, quality, and durability. They reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bringing essential services and development to the grassroots.

With rural infrastructure strengthening day by day, residents of Poba believe the development momentum will continue to bridge the gap between villages and cities, shaping the foundation of a “new Bangladesh” that ensures inclusivity and sustainability for all.
