DHAKA, May 08 (V7N) – The government of Bangladesh has outlined extensive plans to celebrate the 126th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on May 25th. The celebrations will be held under the theme "The Mass Uprising of 2024: The Legacy of Kazi Nazrul."
To mark the occasion, the cultural affairs adviser and the secretary of the ministry will lay floral tributes at the poet's grave in Dhaka on May 25th.
The main three-day program will take place in Daulatpur, Cumilla, where Professor Salimullah Khan will present the keynote address.
Additionally, the birth anniversary will be commemorated in Dhaka, Thrishal in Mymensingh, Teota in Manikganj, Karpashdanga in Chuadanga, and various other locations across the country. Chattogram will host Nazrul fairs, discussions, and cultural events.
These decisions were finalized at a meeting of the Najrul Janmabarshiki Udjapan Jatiya Committee (National Committee for Celebrating Nazrul's Birth Anniversary), according to a press release.
To mark the day, photographs, poems, profiles, and paintings of the national poet will be displayed on all road islands in Dhaka and other districts. In other districts, committees formed with the assistance of local Nazrul researchers and cultural figures will organize celebrations with due respect.
Discussions will be held across various departments under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. The Bangladesh Shishu Academy will organize special programs for children.
Bangladesh embassies abroad will also observe the day. Cultural programs, discussions, and writing and recitation competitions will be organized in all educational institutions nationwide, including Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University.
The National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Institute will host an exhibition featuring the poet's pictures, posters, and books. The Public Library Department will organize a book exhibition, reading competition, and essay competition to introduce the poet to the younger generation.
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will publish 600 souvenirs and 20,000 posters to commemorate the 126th birth anniversary of the National Poet.
