Madaripur, Sept 25 (V7N) – The dismembered body of a Bangladeshi youth, identified as Sagar Bala Ovi (22), was recovered by Italian police in the city of Perugia. News of his death has plunged his family in Madaripur, Bangladesh, into deep mourning.
Ovi’s family was informed on Wednesday afternoon after his cousin, expatriate Shubho Bala, and nephew Mithun Talukder, both residing in Italy, confirmed the tragic incident. Soon after the news spread, relatives and neighbors gathered at the family’s home in Pakhulla village, Rajair upazila, to console the grieving parents.
According to family sources, Ovi was the only son of local farmer Kumod Bala. Nearly two and a half years ago, he left Bangladesh, traveling via Libya and the Mediterranean to reach Italy, where he had been working at a restaurant. For several days prior to the discovery, Ovi had been reported missing.
On Tuesday, around 12 p.m. Bangladesh time, police in the Spoleto area of Perugia found his dismembered body and sent it to a hospital morgue for autopsy. Authorities also recovered an electric bicycle believed to have belonged to him.
Ovi’s father, Kumod Bala, demanded justice, stating, “Italian police have begun collecting evidence, including CCTV footage and conducting searches in various places. They found my son’s electric bicycle near the body. I want justice for this brutal killing.”
Rajair Police Station Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Masud Khan confirmed awareness of the incident and said the local police would extend full cooperation if the victim’s family lodged an official complaint.
The incident has shocked the local community, while investigations continue in Italy to determine the motive and perpetrators behind the killing.
