Khagrachari, Sep 25 (V7N) – A half-day road blockade is being observed in Khagrachari district on Wednesday (Sept 25) at the call of Jumma Chhatra Janata, demanding justice for the rape of a schoolgirl in Khagrachari Sadar.

The program began at 6 am and will continue until 12 noon. Members of Pahari Chhatra Parishad, Hill Women’s Federation, and Democratic Youth Forum took positions at several points, including Chengi Bridge in Khagrachari Sadar. Protesters were seen picketing and burning tires on roads in different parts of the district.

As a result, no long-distance vehicles have been allowed to leave Khagrachari town, while local transport services have also been disrupted. Only a few small vehicles were seen operating in the city center. Police remain deployed at key locations to maintain order.

Blockaders are demanding the immediate trial of those responsible for the rape of the Marma eighth-grade student.

On Tuesday night (Sept 23), the girl was reportedly raped in the Singinala area of Khagrachari Sadar. The following day, her father filed a case at Sadar Police Station against three unidentified men. Later, police, with the assistance of the army, arrested a suspect named Chayan Shil.

Earlier, several organizations held a protest rally under the banner of Jumma Chhatra Janata on Wednesday evening (Sept 24), raising similar demands. Alongside today’s half-day blockade, they also called for a two-day class boycott in all educational institutions across the three hill districts on Sept 25–26.
