Rangamati, Oct 02 (V7N) – Lawyers in Rangamati held a protest rally on Thursday to raise awareness among litigants and the public about alleged fraud by touts, brokers and other intermediaries operating around the court premises.
The rally began at the Rangamati court premises around noon, led by Rangamati District Bar Association President Advocate Shah Alam Mia. The procession passed through Gausia Market before returning to the court premises.
During the rally, the lawyers used a hand-held microphone to warn litigants and members of the public about fraudulent activities related to court cases.
Among those present were District Bar Association General Secretary Advocate Shishu Moni Chakma, Vice-President Advocate Maksuda Haque, Treasurer Advocate Shahidul Islam, IT Secretary Advocate Gafur Badsha, and executive committee members Advocates Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid, Rahmat Ullah, Alal Uddin and Dipan Chakma, among others.
Speaking after the rally, Advocate Shishu Moni Chakma said genuine litigants and people involved in court cases had allegedly been falling victim to various forms of fraud for a long time.
He alleged that some individuals approach the parties involved in cases and promise to arrange case settlements, bail or other legal benefits in exchange for money, causing financial losses to ordinary people.
He urged litigants and members of the public not to discuss their cases or make financial transactions with clerks or unauthorised individuals. Instead, he advised them to directly contact the relevant lawyer for legal advice or assistance.
Chakma also warned that anyone involved in recommending or lobbying in other people's cases, providing legal advice without authorisation, or collecting money in the name of such services at the court premises would face legal action under the existing laws.
The lawyers said the rally was organised to alert litigants and the public about the activities of touts, brokers and other intermediaries at the court premises. They warned that legal action would be taken against anyone found involved in such activities in the future.
