Dhaka, Jun 09 (V7N) – The fourth meeting of the government's Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) began Tuesday morning at the Cabinet Division under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The meeting, which started at 10:00 a.m., is considering 12 new and revised development projects with an estimated total cost of Tk 8,106 crore.
According to officials, the proposed projects focus on key sectors including infrastructure development, water resources management, healthcare, information technology, local government, power and energy, and social safety programs.
Among the major proposals expected to receive approval is the establishment of a Chinese Economic Zone on approximately 800 acres of land in Anwara, Chattogram. The project, estimated to cost around Tk 4,000 crore, is being considered ahead of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s upcoming visit to China.
ECNEC is also reviewing the Bangladesh Children's Hospital and Institute Expansion Project-2, aimed at strengthening child healthcare services across the country. The project is scheduled for implementation from July this year through June 2028, with a proposed budget of Tk 344 crore.
Several other significant initiatives have also been placed before the committee, including the development of the Anwara–Banshkhali–Chakaria regional highway, construction of integrated upazila land complexes, and further expansion of healthcare facilities at Bangladesh Children's Hospital.
Officials say the projects are expected to contribute to economic growth, improve public services, and enhance infrastructure development across multiple sectors.
