Dhaka, Sep 05 (V7N) – Bangladesh has dispatched emergency relief supplies to Afghanistan following the devastating earthquake that killed more than 2,200 people earlier this week.

A Bangladesh Air Force C-130J transport aircraft carrying the relief items departed from AK Khandaker Air Base at around 8 am on Friday. The supplies are expected to reach Afghanistan by night, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.

The relief package includes dry food, baby food, blankets, winter clothes, tents, drinking water, and medicines. The ministry noted that the assistance is being sent on the instructions of Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, in response to the severe humanitarian crisis unfolding in eastern Afghanistan.

According to official figures, the September 1 earthquake left more than 2,200 dead, 3,000 seriously injured, and 8,000 houses destroyed, triggering urgent shortages of food, water, shelter, and medical support.

The initiative was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the Office of the Principal Adviser, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Ministry of Health, Armed Forces Division, BGMEA, Essential Drugs Company Limited, and PRAN-RFL.

Bangladesh had previously sent humanitarian aid to Afghanistan after the 2022 earthquake, underscoring its continued commitment to stand beside the Afghan people in times of crisis.
