DHAKA, May 22,(V7N) – Labour and Employment Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hussain today urged the nation's youth to prioritize technical education as a key strategy to combat unemployment.

Speaking at a conference titled "Youth's Reform Ideas: Employment, Health and Technology," organized by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Agargaon, Dr. Hussain emphasized the significant potential of young people to drive meaningful societal change.

"After obtaining university degrees, many young people seek traditional jobs or move overseas for menial work," Dr. Hussain observed. He stressed the importance of cultivating "a mindset that values small-scale initiatives and entrepreneurship within the country."

The adviser also highlighted the increasing role of research in both public and private universities, advocating for stronger collaboration between academic institutions and the government. "Universities should be more involved in government-led research," he stated.

He noted the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Labour and North South University, aimed at implementing the recommendations of the Labour Reform Commission. This partnership, he said, will be crucial in improving labor rights and providing vocational training.

Furthermore, Dr. Hussain announced plans for the establishment of a Directorate of Employment under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, with the objective of fostering entrepreneurship and creating new job opportunities nationwide.

The conference convened policymakers, researchers, and young leaders to discuss innovative approaches to address the employment, health, and technological challenges confronting Bangladesh's youth.
