DHAKA, May 22 (V7N) – The Supreme Court's Appellate Division Chamber Court has upheld the High Court's directive to prohibit the establishment of cattle markets in Aftabnagar and Banasree's Meradia areas for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Appellate Division Chamber Court Justice Md. Rezaul Haque issued a 'no order' in response to an appeal filed by the City Corporation, effectively maintaining the High Court's earlier injunctions.

Representing the writ petitioners in court were Advocate Zainul Abedin and Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon. Barrister Md. Ruhul Quddus Kajal argued on behalf of the City Corporation.

The High Court had initially ordered on April 29 that cattle markets could not be set up in Banasree's Meradia for Eid. Subsequently, on May 4, the same High Court bench ordered the suspension of the lease notification process for establishing a sacrificial animal market in the capital's Aftabnagar residential area. The City Corporation had filed an appeal against these High Court rulings.

Following the latest court decision, lawyers confirmed that livestock markets will not be permitted in the Aftabnagar and Banasree residential areas.

Shahabuddin Sikder, the chief organizer of Banasree Samaman Parishad and one of the writ petitioners, expressed satisfaction with the court's verdict.
