DHAKA, May 22 (V7N) – Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the BNP, is currently protesting by blocking the Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka, demanding visible progress in the investigation into the murder of Dhaka University student Shahriar Alam Samya and the punishment of the culprits. The protest, which began around 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 22, 2025, has halted traffic through the vital intersection.

More than a hundred leaders and activists, led by Chhatra Dal central president Rakibul Islam, took up positions at Shahbagh. Chhatra Dal members began gathering at the intersection from 9:30 AM.

Protesters claim that after nine days, there has been no visible progress in arresting the main culprits of what they describe as a "planned murder" and in the overall case. They allege negligence on the part of the administration, stating that it has failed to identify the real perpetrators.

Chhatra Dal president Rakibul Islam Rakib warned that if no visible progress is made by the end of today, they will be compelled to launch a more stringent program, including besieging the residence of the chief advisor. The student activists also criticized the university administration for its perceived failures.

Despite the temporary traffic disruption caused by blocking Shahbagh, the activists assert that the public is on their side.
