Dhaka, May 19 (V7N) – Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan has said that no decision can be taken regarding the oath of BNP leader Ishraq Hossain as Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) until the legal complications are resolved.
He made this remark after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with UNFPA at the National Sports Council on Monday afternoon.
“There are many legal complications regarding Ishraq Hossain’s appointment term. Until those are resolved, no action can be taken,” said the advisor. He also urged protesters to be mindful of public suffering, calling for patience and restraint.
For the past several days, Ishraq's supporters have been holding demonstrations, demanding his swearing-in after a court verdict reportedly overturned the 2020 DSCC election results and declared him the mayor.
In a separate development, Advisor Sajeeb Bhuiyan addressed the upcoming Bangladesh cricket team’s tour to Pakistan, assuring that contact is being maintained with the Pakistan Embassy to ensure that matches are not held in stadiums near border areas and that maximum security is provided.
He also commented on the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections, stating that various complications remain unresolved, and a solution is unlikely in the short term.
