Dhaka, Bangladesh, 22 May (V7N) – Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuj Alam today underscored the paramountcy of national interest over personal ideologies, respect, and emotions, in a bid to foster unity among "patriotic forces."

In a post on his verified Facebook account, Alam expressed regret for past "divisive" statements and wording. "If I remain in government for another day, I want to work with respect and sensitivity towards all forces of the mass uprising," he wrote.

He further articulated his vision for a future democratic and inclusive state, contingent on eschewing "divisive slogans and label-mongering of the old settlement, which make a larger group of people vulnerable to killing."

Alam warned of a united and aggressive opposition threatening Bangladesh's sovereignty and democratic institutions. He called upon those who participated in the July uprising to brace for "a long test ahead... of unity and patience. We must pass the test."
