DHAKA, July 25 (V7N)— Senior Joint Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, stated on Sunday morning that the decision regarding who will be nominated or chosen as the country's next President will be taken directly from the highest level of the BNP leadership.
Rizvi made the remarks while addressing media representatives following a ceremony at the mausoleum of former President Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. The event saw 12 newly appointed contractual leaders—placed across various key government agencies, boards, and corporations—paying their respects alongside senior party figures.
Addressing questions regarding the sudden vacancy in the presidency, Rizvi reiterated that he was unaware of any factor behind the resignation of former President Md. Sahabuddin other than his reported health issues.
Furthermore, the BNP senior leader commended Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for honoring his political pledges by evaluating and elevating young leaders and activists who actively participated in the street movements on the Rajpath. Rizvi emphasized that recognizing the sacrifices of those who spearheaded the movement reflects the party's core commitment to dedicated and field-tested leadership.
