Dhaka, October 27, 2026 (V7N) – Bangladesh wicket-keeper batter Liton Das is ready to play in the opening Test against the West Indies, while experienced campaigner Mushfiqur Rahim's finger injury sustained during practice is not serious, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said Tuesday.
Liton's availability had been uncertain after he suffered a hip joint injury following Bangladesh's Test against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, which ruled him out of the subsequent tri-series.
However, medical examinations found no major concerns, and the right-handed batter has recovered following adequate rest. He resumed batting practice on Sunday and also took part in wicket-keeping drills.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Shanto expressed optimism about Liton's fitness but said he was yet to receive the final report from the medical team. "Liton worked on his fitness this morning as well. So far, he is doing well, but the physio and trainer have not yet given me a definitive report. Hopefully, we will get good news. If everything goes well, he will play, but I have not received the 100 per cent confirmation yet," Shanto said.
He added that Liton had participated in batting and fielding practice.
Meanwhile, Mushfiqur sustained a finger injury while batting in Tuesday's practice session. Shanto played down concerns over Mushfiqur's condition, indicating that there was no reason for alarm.
The team management is expected to confirm Liton's inclusion after receiving the medical team's final assessment ahead of the opening Test. Bangladesh will be hoping both players are available as they begin the series against the West Indies.
