On Tuesday night, a flight carrying the shipment of fuel for the first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Officials from the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority received the uranium shipment.

The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is Bangladesh's first nuclear power plant, being built with Russian assistance. The plant has two units, each with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts. The arrival of the third uranium shipment marks continued progress in the commissioning process for the first unit. The uranium fuel is used to power the reactor, and its delivery is a critical step toward the plant's eventual connection to the national grid. The government has said the plant will play a significant role in ensuring the country's energy security and reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.
