Dhaka, May 25 (V7N) – Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was the main inspiration behind the country’s anti-fascist movement.

He made the remarks on Monday morning after paying tribute to the national poet at his grave in Shahbagh, Dhaka, on the occasion of Nazrul’s 127th birth anniversary.

Rizvi said Nazrul’s literature carried the message of equality, justice and humanity. According to him, the poet’s songs and poems have inspired every national movement and democratic struggle in Bangladesh.

He further said that the spirit of resistance against injustice, oppression and inequality was derived from the rebellious poet. Referring to the political movements of recent years, Rizvi commented that Nazrul remained a major inspiration during the anti-dictatorship movement over the past 17 years.

Earlier in the morning, ABM Obaidul Islam paid tribute to the poet at his tomb on behalf of University of Dhaka. Teachers, officials and representatives from different faculties and departments of the university were present during the tribute ceremony.

Various political parties, social organizations and cultural groups also paid homage to the national poet throughout the day marking his birth anniversary.
