Dhaka, Dec 31 (V7N) — BNP Acting Chairman and son of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman, was seen reciting the Holy Quran while sitting beside his mother’s body at house number 196 on Gulshan Avenue in the capital.
Leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), along with relatives and well-wishers, paid their last respects to the late BNP Chairperson at the residence.
Earlier, Khaleda Zia’s body was brought out of Evercare Hospital in Dhaka shortly before 9:00 am on Wednesday in a hearse draped in the national flag of Bangladesh. From there, the body was taken to the Gulshan residence of Tarique Rahman.
Tarique Rahman was accompanied by his daughter Zaima Rahman and other family members during the proceedings.
According to official announcements, Khaleda Zia’s namaz-e-janaza will be held at 2:00 pm at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and Manik Mia Avenue, led by the Khatib of the National Mosque.
Following the funeral prayer, she will be laid to rest with full state honors beside the grave of her late husband, martyred President and freedom fighter Ziaur Rahman, at around 3:30 pm.
For security reasons, public entry will be restricted at the state funeral ceremony. Authorities have requested attendees not to carry bags or heavy items to the funeral and burial venues.
