Dhaka, Dec 30 (V7N)- The German Embassy has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, remembering her as a key figure in the country’s political history and its first female prime minister.

In a condolence message, the embassy said Khaleda Zia made significant contributions to Bangladesh’s political landscape through her long and influential career. Germany recalled her role in strengthening bilateral relations through various high-level meetings and engagements.

The message highlighted her meeting with then German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer during his visit to Dhaka in 2004, as well as her meeting with German President Christian Wulff during his state visit to Bangladesh in 2011. It also mentioned her multiple interactions with senior German representatives over the years.

The German Embassy extended its heartfelt condolences to Khaleda Zia’s family, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), and the people of Bangladesh during this time of mourning. It further reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to continuing the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Bangladesh and Germany.
