Dhaka, Nov 29 (V7N) — BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the country’s businessmen must change their mindset and work for the nation, not just for personal gain.

He made the remarks while speaking at the fourth Bangladesh Economic Conference held at a hotel in the capital on Saturday.

Mirza Fakhrul said that simply shutting down institutions of those involved in corruption over the past 15 years will not solve all economic problems. He stressed the importance of ensuring that unemployment does not rise as a consequence of such actions.

The BNP leader added that the party is a responsible political organization with a clear vision for economic advancement. He noted that Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer had earlier alleged at the event that businessmen form alliances with every ruling government to protect their interests, but Mirza Fakhrul said the fault lies not with businessmen alone, but also with political parties.

He emphasized that Bangladesh needs not only an economic roadmap, but also a political roadmap, and said the BNP had placed these proposals long before the reform agendas the party has now endorsed.
