Dhaka, Oct 31 (V7N)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that there are major discrepancies between the signed July Charter and its implementation process, claiming that the people have been deceived by the omission of the note of dissent. He blamed the interim government and the Consensus Commission for creating the current national crisis.
He made the remarks at a discussion meeting marking the founding anniversary of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) held at the National Press Club on Friday (October 31) afternoon.
Fakhrul said, “A group has emerged to thwart the upcoming election. There is no scope for a referendum before the national polls. I urge those who opposed the Liberation War not to mislead the people by opposing the election.”
Rejecting allegations that the BNP is against reforms, he stated, “Those who claim that BNP does not want reforms are trying to confuse the nation. BNP has supported reforms in the past and will continue to do so in the future.”
At the same event, Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that the Consensus Commission has altered the July Charter, deceiving the nation by excluding the note of dissent. He added that the government has created divisions among political parties.
Meanwhile, People’s Rights Council President Nurul Haque Nur said that the referendum should be held alongside the national elections, asserting that a new Bangladesh will be built in the spirit of the July Charter.
