Dhaka, Oct 16 (V7N) — The National Citizens Party (NCP) has announced that it will not participate in the signing ceremony of the July Charter until the document is given a legal basis.

The decision was announced by NCP Convener Nahid Islam at a press conference held on Thursday (October 16) morning.

Alleging irregularities in the drafting of the July Charter, Nahid Islam claimed that the content of the manifesto was not shown to the political parties beforehand and that many narratives were omitted from the final version.

He further stated that 84 unresolved issues should be brought under a public referendum, emphasizing that signing the Charter before ensuring its legal foundation would be “mere formality.”

“The signing of the July Charter is just a symbolic act without legal grounding. If the people approve, the Charter can then be implemented by the elected government,” said Nahid Islam.

Criticizing what he described as “fraud in the declaration process,” the NCP leader added that his party would not take part in any drama without proper legal validation of the document.

Regarding the upcoming elections, Nahid Islam said they must be held in February, expressing concern that the Election Commission (EC) was “losing its impartiality” in handling the party symbol issue. He also accused the EC of trying to enforce decisions by force.
