Dhaka, Oct 14 (V7N) — Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organizer of the National Citizens Party (NCP) for the southern region, has claimed that the party “will get the Lotus symbol.” He made the statement in a verified Facebook post on Tuesday afternoon (October 14).
His remarks came shortly after Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed reaffirmed that the NCP cannot be allocated the Lotus symbol as it is not included in the EC’s official list of election symbols.
The declaration highlights ongoing tensions between the NCP and the Election Commission over the issue. Despite repeated clarifications from the EC, the NCP remains adamant about securing the Lotus symbol, which it considers integral to its political identity.
Party leaders have earlier warned that they may take to the streets if the demand is not met and even reconsider their participation in the upcoming national elections.
Meanwhile, the EC has maintained that unless the party selects an alternative symbol by October 19, the Commission will assign one at its discretion.
