Dhaka, Sep 20 (V7N) – The National Citizens Party (NCP) will not join any coalition movement but instead move forward with its own political agenda, party convener Nahid Islam said on Friday.

Speaking at a press conference following the NCP coordination meeting at Abu Sayeed Auditorium in Shahbagh, Dhaka, Nahid Islam stated that the party supports the introduction of a proportional representation (PR) system in the upper house, not in the lower house.

He criticized the interim government and law enforcement agencies for what he described as their failure to maintain control, saying this has allowed the Awami League to organize rallies in different parts of the country with government backing. “They are being supported from within the government. Their trial work as a party should begin,” he said.

On party registration, Nahid Islam said the outcome was “certain,” expressing hope that the party would be allocated the Shaplai (water lily) as its electoral symbol.

He also stressed the need for a legal framework for reforms, alongside holding national and Constituent Assembly elections simultaneously. Nahid Islam expressed optimism that the party’s nationwide convening committee would be announced by next October.

Additionally, the NCP convener called on leaders and activists to build social resistance against corruption.
