Pabna, Sept 17 (V7N) – The Satkhira Upazila branch of Jamaat-e-Islami has accused the family of former Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, particularly his son Asif Shams Ranjan and brother Abdul Baten, of instigating third-party unrest in the ongoing movement demanding the restoration of Pabna-1 constituency’s previous boundaries.

The allegation was made during a press conference held on Tuesday night at the Satkhira Press Club.

Maulana Mokhlesur Rahman, Amir of Satkhira Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami and former Upazila Chairman, said, “Previously, certain individuals benefited from the Chaturhat area in Satkhira. Fearing the loss of those benefits, they are now provoking unrest. The family of former Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, particularly his son Asif Shams Ranjan and brother Abdul Baten, are reportedly hiring people and providing financial support to create chaos. They have been attacking vehicles heading toward Satkhira in the name of the movement and brutally assaulting drivers.”

He further stated, “There is also a smear campaign against Barrister Nazibur Rahman Momen for his participation in the Election Commission hearing. If the Bealabasi community protests for a single constituency, Satkhira Jamaat-e-Islami will express solidarity with their demand.”

Earlier in the afternoon, a celebratory procession was held to mark the announcement of Satkhira as a single constituency. The procession started from Satkhira Balika High School and passed through C& B Gol Chattar, Kashinathpur Bazar, Chobish Mile Bazar, Bongram Bazar, Madhpur Bazar, Ataikula Bazar, and Dhulauri Bazar, ending at the Upazila center.

Also present at the press conference were Satkhira Municipality Amir Hafiz Maulana Abdul Gafur, President of Satkhira Upazila Youth Division Mehedi Hasan, and Satkhira Municipality Ward Council member Mahadi Hasan, among others.
