Dhaka, Sep 01 (V7N) – National Citizen Party (NCP) Convenor Nahid Islam has said that the Jatiya Party has no right to do politics in Bangladesh, accusing it of legitimizing the illegal election by participating against the will of the people.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters on Sunday (August 31) night at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after returning from a five-day visit to China. Nahid Islam went there to see People’s Rights Council President Nurul Haque Nur, who is currently under treatment following a violent attack.
Nahid described the attack on the former DUCSU VP as “not normal but a deeply worrying incident” and urged all political parties to unite to confront the defeated forces.
At the same time, NCP Northern Region Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam warned of taking to the streets to resist all conspiracies of fascist elements. “This attack on Nur was carried out to suppress the power of the people’s uprising. Such brutality was committed to protect the accomplices of fascism. The army was involved in this attack, which is alarming. Questions are also being raised as to whose orders they are operating under,” he said.
It is worth noting that Nurul Haque Nur was seriously injured on Friday night (August 29) during clashes between Jatiya Party and Gana Adhikar Parishad activists in the capital. The situation escalated when the army and police baton-charged the crowd. The incident has since been strongly condemned by almost all political parties, including the interim government.
Earlier, an NCP delegation led by Nahid Islam left Dhaka for China on Tuesday night (August 26). The group included Sarjis Alam, NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Senior Joint Convener Samantha Sharmin, Senior Joint Member Secretary Nahida Sarwar Niva, Joint Convener Mahbub Alam, and Joint Member Secretary Tahsin Riaz.
